| The Buffalo Match turned out
to be a husband and wife type thing. R. D. had so little fun during the regular silhouette
portion of the match that she told Wayne Lovell that she was going to win.
To quote RD, "I'm just trying to figure out how I can hit that darned buffalo at 800+ yards when I can't seem to get the blankety-blank pigs at 300 meters. Sure, the buff is bigger, but it's a lot farther away, and my lousy eyesight made it almost impossible to see the gong. In fact, there was a time or two when I wasn't even sure I was on the buffalo!" Well, weve all had those days, RD. Just looking at David Pierces exercise in futility shows that it isnt always a given that youre going to hit the beast. David had such troubles that he attempted his last 2 or 3 shots offhand. I know you guys dont think I was paying attention, since I was working the kinks out of some loads for my great-grandfathers old Springfield .50-70, but I was. In the future, when you change shooting squads, be sure to call a halt on the firing line and go paint. The Buffalo Match has 1st priority vs practice on the firing line. It gets very difficult to spot the hits, and if theres too much clutter, its almost impossible. Tom Berwick |
